Cell Phone Sales | NPD: US Holiday Electronics Sales Drop 5.9 Percent

LAS VEGAS (AP) ” U.S. sales of consumer wiring fell 5.9 percent this past legal holiday season, as smartphones cannibalize sales of standalone gadgets similar to cameras, camcorders and GPS navigation devices.

The NPD Group reported Sunday that wiring sales, inclusive TVs and PCs, totaled $9.5 billion in the 5 weeks finale Dec. 24.

Camcorder sales plunged 43 percent, and sales of digital photo frames fell 38 percent. GPS units slumped 33 percent. Personal Computer and TV sales slipped only 4 percent, bolstered by sales of TVs bigger than 50 inches.

Cell phone sales are not enclosed in the report.

The total were expelled as the consumer wiring attention collected in Las Vegas for its annual traffic show, the largest in the Americas and a of the largest in the world, and taunt with a few sell numbers expelled final week.

Best Buy Co., the largest U.S. wiring retailer, mentioned Friday that December sales lagged since feeble traffic. Sales at stores open a year fell 1.2 percent is to month. However, sales were burly for chic phones, inscription computers and e-readers.
